January-March 2013 - Gulf Shores of Alabama and Biloxi Mississippi

As snowbirds, we now head to warm weather for the winter months.  We thought we would try the beautiful beaches of Alabama instead of Florida.  The beaches are amazingly wide, and the sand is white and beautiful.  We rented a condo right on the beach and can see both sunrises and sunsets.  Several times we were able to see the dolphins swimming very close to shore.  Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, so although we were able to take walks on the beach every day, we couldn't swim or even relax there.

Since the beach wasn't where we would spend our time, we found a few things to do such as walking through some state parks and attending some snow bird festivals.  There was a chili festival which was fun and several pre-Mardi Gras parades.  We walked away loaded with beads and a stuffed pig.

While we were there, we bought a house in Florida, so we were able to spend a little bit of our time shopping for our new home.  Although neither of us like to shop, it was fun, plus it gave us something to do.

After 7 weeks in the Gulf Shores, we headed to Biloxi Mississippi for a few days of gambling.  We again rented a condo on the beach, but when we got to the condo and opened the door, somebody was already living there.  Fortunately they weren't in the condo at the time, which could have been very embarrassing!   We were given a condo on a higher floor and in the corner so it was a better view.  We spent a few days gambling and then headed home.  We are extremely happy with our decision to buy a home in Florida where there is plenty to do and it's warm and sunny.
